Question 4 - Where were Jesus, Mary and Joseph? Did they return to Galilee or departed to Egypt?

Luke 2:39 NKJV - "So when they had performed all things according to the law of the Lord, they returned to Galilee, to their own city, Nazareth."
Matthew 2:14-15 NKJV - "When he arose, he took the young Child and His mother by night and departed for Egypt, and was there until the death of Herod, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the Lord through the prophet, saying, "Out of Egypt I called My Son."
Answer:
Herod wanted to kill infant Jesus but he did not know where the infant is born. Herod knew that the searching is very difficult, so he sent the wise men to Bethlehem as mentioned in Matthew 2: 8, “Go and search diligently for the young child, and when you have found Him, bring back word to me, that I may come and worship Him also”.  In those days, there were no proper roads, and vehicles. The light of the Lord was illuminated before them and showed the way to the wise men. So, they could reach the place easily in which the child was born, but it was impossible for ordinary human beings. The shepherd also could find the infant Jesus according to the information of angel in Matthew 2:9. Herod waited for the wise men many days; but the days and weeks were gone, there was no shadow of them. So, Matthew 2:16, “Then Herod, when he saw that he was deceived by the wise men, was exceedingly angry”.
Luke 2:21, “And when eight days were completed for the circumcision of the child, His name was called JESUS, the name given by the angel before He was conceived in the womb”. Luke 2:39 “So when they had performed all things according to the law of the Lord, they returned to Galilee, to their own city, Nazareth”. All these were performed on eighth day according to the law of the Lord.
Herod, who waited for the wise men, sent forth and put to death all the male children, who were in Bethlehem and in all its districts, from two years old and under, according to the time which he had determined from the wise men.

As in Isaiah 66:18 and Hebrew 4:12, the Lord God, who knew their works and their thoughts well before, consecrated the child in the temple according to the law of covenant on eighth day. Thereafter, the Lord sent the son of God to Egypt safely as in Mat 2:14, 15. So there is a long time gap between these incidents and the both the verses quoted in this question are correct.
